As Black History Month draws to a close, I rise to recognize Windsor-Essex`s role as the gateway to freedom for untold thousands of men, women and children fleeing the insidious evil of slavery, and to commend those fearless Canadians of conscience who – even in the face of grave risk - assisted their flight.

Some 40,000 would seek and find in Canada the liberty that was their birthright by way of that great conspiracy of conscience, the Underground Railroad.

Join with me to ensure the Unemployed Help Centre Food Bank is fully stocked this Christmas season.

Ottawa - Joe Comartin (Windsor-Tecumseh) was selected today as the new Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.

Elected for the first time in 2000, Mr. Comartin has served with distinction in a variety of roles in Parliament including, Opposition House Leader, Justice critic, Public Safety critic, Environment critic and most recently as the NDP Democratic and Parliamentary Reform critic.

 OTTAWA – The NDP welcomes the recognition of the power of investigation of the Official Languages Commissioner from CBC/Radio-Canada in a judgment rendered by the Federal Court in the case of Official Languages Commissioner and Amellal c. CBC/Radio-Canada.
